About Be Well

"Be Well" is a heart-wrenching story about a former NCAA football player torn between maintaining a thriving career as a professional singer/songwriter and the war against opioid abuse. A multimedia DVD project, the purpose of the story is to increase awareness of the opioid epidemic in this country. This public health crisis transcends all ages, ethnic groups, and families.

The story takes place with a dad, Nick, and his daughter, Kayla. Nick is a former college football player who has sustained lingering injuries as an athlete. Although he majored in Kinesiology, he also studied songwriting to satisfy his love for music. As time goes on, his passion for the music industry led him to a very handsome publishing contract with R.I.T.A. Once a hit songwriter, he suddenly finds himself in a slump, unable to produce a hit song. That is when R.I.T.A. reneges on their monthly stipend and needs to recoup money from his songs to realize a positive cash flow.

Dealing with the pain sustained from being an athlete, Nick visits a thirty-second Madd Doc Pharmacy. Along with a line-full of other people, Nick is waiting for his prescriptions filled by a pharmacist known as "The Madd Doc." Like Nick, others are awaiting opioid pain relievers. As the pharmacist's assistant calls out the well-known brands and street-named drugs, many of them are wearing masks to conceal their identity. Suddenly, a crazy psychedelic song plays in the background, setting the tone for what comes next. As it turns out, Nick finds himself in a world that society is now treating as a public health crisis.
